A Montana Lakeside Elopement at Branham Lakes | Katie & Nick

A lakeside elopement, fishing together, family by their side, and a “JUST MARRIED” side-by-side getaway. Katie and Nick’s intimate Branham Lakes elopement near Sheridan, Montana, was a perfect reminder that your wedding day should feel like you — adventurous, meaningful, and entirely your own. Some wedding days are best spent surrounded by the people you love, tucked away in the Montana mountains, with a little adventure mixed in. Katie and Nick’s elopement at Branham Lakes near Sheridan, Montana, was exactly that.

With their family by their side, a beautiful mountain lake as their backdrop, and fishing rods ready for a little time on the water, they created a wedding day that felt true to them. No big production. No rushing from one thing to the next. Just a meaningful day together in a place that felt like Montana.

As a Montana elopement photographer, these are the kinds of days I love documenting — personal, adventurous, and full of the little moments that make a story your own.

An Intimate Elopement at Branham Lakes, Montana

Branham Lakes near Sheridan offered Katie and Nick a beautiful setting for their elopement. Surrounded by Montana's mountain scenery, they exchanged vows with their family there to celebrate alongside them.

One of my favorite things about intimate weddings is how much room there is to slow down and actually experience the day. With a smaller gathering, couples can spend more time with their favorite people, take in the scenery, and make space for the things they genuinely enjoy.

For Katie and Nick, that meant sharing their wedding day with family while embracing the outdoors that makes Montana such a special place to get married.

Fishing, Family, and a Little Montana Adventure

Why stop at wedding portraits when you can spend part of your wedding day fishing?

After celebrating together, Katie and Nick enjoyed some time fishing at the lake. It was such a fitting way to make their elopement feel like their own — less about following a traditional wedding checklist and more about spending the day doing what they love.

That's one of the best parts of planning an elopement. Your wedding day can look however you want it to. Maybe that means hiking to a mountain overlook, fishing beside an alpine lake, camping beneath the stars, exploring a quiet forest road, or simply spending an afternoon somewhere that feels like home.

Your wedding doesn't have to look like anyone else's.

Just Married: A Montana Side-by-Side Send-Off

And, of course, no Montana adventure would be complete without a little off-road fun.

Katie and Nick drove away together in their side-by-side with a “JUST MARRIED” sign on the back — the perfect ending to a wedding day that was unmistakably theirs.

It's hard to imagine a more fitting send-off for an adventurous couple. Forget the traditional getaway car. A side-by-side, a mountain road, and the beginning of a new chapter together? That's a Montana wedding exit.

These are the moments I love most as a photographer: the unplanned laughs, the personal touches, and the little details that tell you something about the people behind the photographs.

Planning a Montana Elopement?

Montana has so many incredible places for couples who want a wedding day that feels personal and connected to the outdoors. From quiet lakes and mountain scenery to wide-open landscapes and backroads, there is room to create something that reflects your relationship rather than someone else's expectations.

Whether you're dreaming of an intimate lakeside ceremony near Sheridan, an adventurous elopement elsewhere in Montana, or a destination wedding beyond state lines, your day can be built around what matters most to you.

Bring your family. Pack your fishing gear. Take the scenic route. Drive away in your favorite off-road vehicle. Make the day yours.

You don't need a huge wedding to have a meaningful one.

I'm Alyssa, a Montana-based photographer documenting weddings and elopements for couples who want to spend their wedding day living it — not turning it into a photoshoot.

I photograph elopements throughout Sheridan, Bozeman, and across Montana, and I'm always up for an adventure beyond state lines, too.
